Extremely Rare 1974 NIXON FORD Frankoma Pottery Elephant Mug

This is the extremely rare NIXON FORD Frankoma GOP Elephant Mug made in 1974 in Coffee Brown. The standard mug in the same color was made earlier in 1974 as part of the annual fundraising for the Federation of Republican Women.

Later in 1974, Spiro Agnew resigned and Gerald Ford was appointed by Congress as Vice President. There are several accounts on how these rare mugs came to be made. It is believed that fewer than 500 of these were made as a special treat for the Oklahoma Republican Women's Organization.

D215-868 By Frankoma Pottery The "Nixon/Ford" Elephant Mug is one of the most rare of all Political Mugs produced by Frankoma Pottery. The event was held with newly appointed Vice President Gerald Ford as the featured speaker, and Mr. Frank produced about 200 of the "Nixon/Ford" Mugs to be given to the ORWO for the occasion. Mug measures 5" wide, 4" tall, and 3 deep.

Found on page 126 of Schaum's Collector's Guide to Frankoma Pottery. The condition of the mug is excellent with no chips, cracks, or repairs. We are downsizing our house and there is no extra space to display the mugs anymore, so it needs a new home! I'm not complaining, but the listing price is less than I paid for it 20 years ago!
